MakerLab

The MakerLab is located across from the Info Desk and is available to all members of the University of Cincinnati community. In the CECH Library, we believe that making is learning and offer a variety of tools to support makers of all kinds. Whether you’re creating instructional classroom materials, a prototype, or simply feeling crafty, we’ve got you covered!

Before you begin...

We welcome makers to complete all project steps in our MakerLab.

To create a project, we recommend Cricut Design Space (free download) for initial design and project inspiration. This tool is excellent for beginners.

You can also use project templates you find on Cricut Design Space, Canva, or elsewhere. If you’re using Canva, export as a PNG and then upload to Cricut Design Space prior to cutting your project.

Cut, score, or engrave paper, adhesive vinyl (permanent and removable), iron-on vinyl, cardboard, cardstock, chipboard and more.

Self-service. MakerLab Assistants and library staff can also provide support.

Use the Brightpad to illuminate hard-to-see cut lines, making weeding easier. In Cricut-speak, weeding refers to separating a cut shape or image from the sheet of cutting material.

Self-service.

Use the Autopress and Mini Press for iron-on vinyl projects. Cut iron-on vinyl first using the Cricut Maker 3, then adhere it with the Autopress and/or Mini Press. The Autopress works well for larger projects such as t-shirts, tote bags, and other textiles. The Mini Press works well for smaller projects such as hats or cozies.
