Request Materials
Patrons may search for and request books, articles, electronic resources and much more via UC Libraries OneSearch.
Requested materials may be delivered and picked up at the University of Cincinnati Libraries location of your choice. Start by logging into OneSearch and using the search engine to find items at UC and beyond, in both OhioLINK and SearchOhio.
Allow two to three business days for requested UC materials to arrive at the library pick-up location. Allow five to seven business days for materials from other OhioLINK institutions.
Patrons will be notified via e-mail when items are available for pick up. You may utilize My Library Record to check on the status of your request. "In-transit" means the materials are en route to UC.
June 2025: SearchOhio borrowing and lending are suspended from June 2025, until Fall 2025, due to the statewide migration to a new library services platform. SearchOhio users should request items via their interlibrary loan services at their local library. Cincinnati and Hamilton County Public Library users will not be able to borrow directly from UC Libraries locations with their public library cards during this transition.
Interlibrary Loan (ILLiad)
If materials are not available via UC Libraries, OhioLINK or SearchOhio, faculty, students, and staff may request the material through interlibrary loan via ILLiad. Users may submit book requests via the “Request item via ILLiad” link in a WorldCat record, submit requests via the Article Linker link found in library databases, or manually enter information on an ILLiad request form.
Placing Holds on Checked Out Materials
If a desired item is checked out (or otherwise unavailable), patrons may place a hold on the item by clicking "Request" on the item in UC Libraries OneSearch. A hold prevents the current patron from renewing the item or, when applicable, initiates a recall. When the item is returned, it is held at the circulation desk for ten days; the requesting patron is notified of availability and may then check out the item. Patrons can monitor their requests and holds using the My Library Record option.
