The CCM Library has a beautiful Reading Room, which welcomes the community for quiet study. Occasionally during the semester, classes or recitals are held in the space, in which case advanced notice is given to readers.

The CCM Library Media Lab also offers tables for quiet study. During the semester, instruction may be held in the space, in which case advanced notice is given to readers.

Group study rooms are available to library users.

• There is a group study space near the Reading Room.
• There is another group study space upstairs near the CCM Library carrels.
  
• To reserve time in a group study space, ask at the CCM Library Circulation Desk. They will help you understand about available equipment in the rooms.
  If you need any assistance with equipment, ask at the CCM Library Circulation Desk.

• A Bookeye scanner and microform study room near the Reading Room offers access to the CCM Library’s cradle-bed Bookeye scanner (with instructions for use) and a microform reader that saves scanned pages to pdf format or print copies. This room is open to public use (no reservation is needed).

There are study carrels on the 7th floor that are available to students for individual, quiet study. To request that a carrel be assigned to you (subject to availability), please ask at the CCM Library Circulation Desk.

There are computer study spaces for students and faculty in the Media Lab.

• Sibelius and Finale music typesetting software and midi keyboards are available  at 5 computer workstations. 
• CD/DVD external drives are available at 5 computer workstations.

Equipment available in the Media Lab:

• 2 electronic pianos + 2 electronic pianos in a study room off the Media Lab
• 2 Technics SL-1200 turntables to play LP/vinyl records.
• SACD player and cassette player
• good-quality headphones available for loan at the Circulation Desk (headphone pad covers will be supplied).

• NB: there is also a Yamaha Clavinova in the seminar room upstairs (Rm 702).

Recording your piano practice session:

• This help video shows how to record your practice session to your personal laptop using Piano Marvel online software. 

Equipment shown in the video may be borrowed in a recording kit from the CCM Library Circulation Desk.

In the Atrium, there is a computer workstation for quick reference or study and a WEPA printer (for help, see wepa printing).

• The Reading Room stacks hold CCM Library reference materials and books on music, dance, and other CCM-related topics.
  
• The Scores Room stacks are north of the Reading Room. They hold the library's collections of music score.
• The Journal Room stacks are south of the Reading Room. They hold physical copies of recently-received unbound, as well as long-held bound, journals. (Online journal issues may also be accessed through the online catalog.)
  
  
• CDs and DVDs are not open to browsing by library users, but may be searched in the online catalog and requested (by call number) at the CCM Library
  Circulation Desk. Unless otherwise indicated, CDs and DVDs may be borrowed by members of the UC community.
• LPs are not open to browsing by library users, but may be searched in the 
  online catalog and requested (by call number) at the CCM Library Circulation Desk for use in the CCM Library.

• This online catalog is most successful for discovering materials held in the CCM Library.

• The CCM Library Circulation Desk is open to public access during opening hours. 
  • Patrons may pull books and scores from the shelves themselves, and check items out at the Desk.
  • Patrons may request CDs and DVDs at the desk (by call number), and then check them out.
  • Patrons may request LPs at the desk (by call number) for use in the CCM Library.

• Requesting items from other libraries for pick-up at CCM Library.
  • Use the online catalog’s “Request” function to request items held in other UC Libraries (e.g. Langsam Library) for pickup at the CCM Library.
  • Additionally, OhioLINK and SearchOhio items can be requested for pickup at the CCM Library. When logging on to ILL, select “Change User Information” to check that “CCM” shows in the pickup location dropdown field. 
    
    
• Course reserves for print books, print scores, CDs, DVDs, etc. 
  • To access item(s) on course reserve, request each item by call number at the CCM Library Circulation Desk. The borrowing time will be specified when you check the item(s) out.
    • To request to place materials on CCM Library course reserves, go to the course reserves webpage and use the online form.

• For information regarding item limits and loan periods for different types of library users, click here and scroll down to “Borrow materials”.
• If you have item(s) checked out that you would like to keep borrowing, you may try extending the due date(s) using My Library Record.

If you need to request an item that is already checked out, first check to see if there is copy available through OhioLINK. Otherwise, please contact the Public Services Supervisor David Sandor (david.sandor@uc.edu) or Head Librarian Jenny Doctor (jenny.doctor@uc.edu). 

If you search for an item in the libraries’ online catalog, and don’t find it,

Search to see if the item can be borrowed through OhioLINK or interlibrary loan following this process:

o   Go to the CCM Library home page

o   Scroll down to “Top Resources”

o   Select the “Core search tools” heading

o   Select WorldCat First Search
This allows you to search for your item in the catalogs in many US and international libraries’ catalogs.

o   Put data into the search engine for the item and search for it.

o   If you find records for the search item, select the record that shows the greatest number next to “Libraries Worldwide”.

o   Check to confirm it is the same edition, publisher, and year of publication that you need.

§  If not, go back to the result list to see if you can find an item that matches all your search criteria.

§  If so, look to see if there is a green “University of Cincinnati” icon.
If you see the green "UC" icon, click on “Search the UC Libraries catalog.”
This leads to the UC Libraries’ online catalog record for the item, showing its location, call number, and status (if it is available for you to borrow).

§  If so and there is no green “UC” icon, then click on:
“Request item via ILLiad (CIN).”

§  Click the red “LOGIN TO ILLIAD” button.

§  If you haven’t registered with ILLiad before, fill in the requested information. Select “CCM Library” as the “Delivery Location,” if you want loaned items to be delivered to the CCM Library for you to collect from there.

§  On the ILLiad screen, select the “New Requests” dropdown. For a book or score, select the “Book” option.

§  If not autofilled, enter the requested information from the WorldCat record (copy and paste field by field).
In Notes, copy and paste the penultimate line of the WorldCat record: 
for example, “Accession No.: OCLC: 27819797”.

§  When all the data is entered, click on “Submit Request.”

If you don’t find the item in the libraries’ online catalog or in WorldCat First Search, then:

• Requests:
  To request for an item to be added to the CCM Library collections, send an email to Head Librarian, Jenny Doctor (jenny.doctor@uc.edu). Include bibliographic details of the search item, with ISBN/ISMN if possible. Explain how you will be using the item for your studies at CCM, perhaps for research or for a degree-earning recital.
  
  
• Suggestions:
  If the item is a recent publication that you feel would be an important addition to the CCM Library collections and which might prove useful to other CCM community members, send an email to Head Librarian, Jenny Doctor (jenny.doctor@uc.edu). Include bibliographic details of the search item, with ISBN/ISMN if possible. We suggest that you borrow the item through ILLiad in the meantime, as processing new acquisitions takes time.
