Updated April 1, 2021:
Students and faculty can request a laptop to schedule a safe, contactless pick up. You can learn more about this service here. Laptops will be checked out for one month, with one renewal in Spring 2021, to ensure we maintain a supply of laptops.
We are asking all students who borrowed laptops during the pandemic to return them by May 31, 2021, to facilitate updates to the machines in preparation for the Fall 2021 semester's likely resumption of more normal equipment lending services.
IT@UC continues to assist students with long term laptop needs through their NEXT Apprenticeship Program. (The link leads to an explanation of the program and an application form.)
Laptops and other equipment checked out before March 2020 will be due May 31, 2021. Users will be given the option to renew those items only until August 20221 should they be unable to bring them to campus until Fall semester. Fines will not be incurred or collected for items checked out during the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic.
However, if you wish to return equipment to The Desk @ Langsam Library, please submit a return form or email Ben Kline to arrange for the drop off. Please do not visit Langsam to return equipment without an appointment.
As we test and refine this new service, we hope to include items other than laptops in the future, contingent on staffing, cleaning supplies and availability.
Students and faculty can learn more about what technology is available, and how to use it, at the Equipment and Technology guide.
The guide features photos, instructional videos and detailed information about accessories and compatibility.
The Desk @ Langsam loans multimedia equipment and technology solely for use by UC students and faculty in direct support of instruction and completion of course assignments.
This technolgoy is funded largely by Information Technology and Instructional Equipment (ITIE) fees which students pay. These funds are restricted to use that promotes "direct and primary benefit to student learning."
The equipment is not intended for personal use or extra-curricular activities. Users discovered using the equipment for inappropriate purposes could face suspension of borrowing privileges.
UC staff members who are currently enrolled in UC courses that require equipment in the completion of coursework may also borrow this equipment.
The Desk @ Langsam does not allow any patron to borrow on another patron's account, with the exception of faculty designates as specified in Circulation section. The patron on whose account equipment is reserved and/or is being charged must be present at the Desk to both check out the equipment and sign the borrower's agreement. The patron who signed the borrower's agreement is responsible for returning this equipment in person.
How and Where to Check Out Equipment
Equipment and technology can be reserved in person at The Desk @ Langsam, or over the phone at (513) 556-1424. Patrons must pick up or return equipment at least one hour before the library closes.
Who can Borrow
Patrons listed below may borrow equipment for up to five days and renew for an additional five days, provided there are no additional reservations on the items. Many items are in high demand so patrons should limit the length of their loan periods whenever possible out of courtesy to other users.
Laptops, data projectors, speakers, video cameras and digital still cameras are limited to one per person.
