Overview of Collection Resources
The CECH Library provides a large collection of curriculum resources and other education materials that support teaching, research, previewing, and evaluation activities. See our Collection Floor Plan Map.
General Description and Organization of Collections Expand
The library is housed on two floors on the Clifton Avenue side of the Teachers College building. The library entrance is on the 3rd floor.
The 4th floor collections include: professional education books and media, professional education journals, reference materials, and the Phi Delta Kappan collection. The professional education books and media, and the reference materials are organized by Library of Congress call numbers. The CECH Library includes most "LB" and "LC" education books at UC. Most other "L" resources are housed at Langsam. Here is a brief selection of key CECH education related Library of Congress call number classifications:

The 3rd floor collections include: childrens and young adult books, electronics, mixed materials (kits, globes, models, games), teacher handbooks, K-12 magazines, textbooks, posters, a picture file, ESL materials and curriculum guides. Collections on the 3rd floor are organized using the Dewey Decimal System. Here is a brief outline of the Dewey Decimal System:

Children’s and Young Adult Books Expand
Children’s and Young Adult books:
This collection consists of nonfiction, fiction (easy reading/picture books, juvenile fiction, and fiction for ages 14 through adult), biographies and autobiographies, graphic novels, and story collections. Big books are also available for shared reading experiences.

CECH Literacy Center Reference Area:
The new and growing CECH Literacy Center Reference area is located on the entrance level next to the stairs, and currently houses about 2,667 children’s and young adult books. These books were purchased by a generous donation from The Mary Louise Schroth Charitable Trust held at the PNC Bank. These books are used by both local teachers participating in literacy workshops sponsored by The Literacy Research and Innovation Center, and by School of Education majors. In addition, these books also support the new Common Core English Language Arts standards that emphasize “close reading” of “informational text”. The Literacy Center Reference books can be read while in the CECH Library, but cannot be checked out; whereas, books located in the Children’s & Young Adult section can be checked out. Stop by and browse this growing collection.
Curriculum Guides Expand
These represent the scope and sequence of various concepts and skills taught in elementary and secondary school curriculums across the U.S. In addition to having paper versions of curriculum guides, the CECH Library has over 600 curriculum guides on microfiche (Kraus Curriculum Development Library) with an excellent index. A reader printer is available for viewing and printing paper copies of the microfiche. Recent curriculum guides are available fulltext in the database, KCDL Online. With the availability of this excellent database, the CECH Library purchases very few paper curriculum guides.

ESL Resource Center Expand
ESL resource center:
Through a grant awarded to the ESL program of the College, the CECH Library has established an ESL resource center that has a wide variety of ESL teaching resources.
This collection is located on the fourth floor near the Reference Collection.

The Archives and Rare Books Library maintains a reference historical textbook collection of selected titles dating back to the 1800s. (The 1990s and some of the 2000s textbooks are located behind the circulation desk.)
K – 12 Textbooks Expand
K – 12 Textbooks:
Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade textbooks are available representing major curriculum areas and major publishers. The CECH Library retains textbooks for ten to twelve years in the regular collection.

Mixed Materials & Electronics Expand
Mixed Materials and Electronics:
Instructional materials which represent numerous curriculum topics on all levels, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade. This collection consists of kits, games, posters/charts/maps, picture sets, transparencies, models, and puppets.
The CECH Library has three electronic media sections:
Professional Education Electronics- used to develop professional education knowledge and competence in preservice and inservice education professionals.
K-12 Electronics: consists of DVDs, videotapes, audio CDs, CD-ROMs, and audiocassettes which represent curriculum topics on all levels, Pre-Kindergarten through 12th grade.
Childrens & Young Adult Electronics: consists of literature-based DVDs, videotapes, CD-ROMs, audiobooks, and Read-a-Longs (books on audiocassette/audio CD).

Ohio Assessment Tests for Educators Tips
The CECH Library has print PRAXIS Series study resources on reserve. These study guides may be borrowed for 24 hours or for up to three days. There are also online study guides and free resources available through the ETS and the Testing and Education Reference Center. The databases require that you register so that they can provide your scores. See our Ohio Assessments for Educators guide for more information.
PreK-12 Magazines: Expand
Various preschool through senior high school level magazines are provided on a wide range of subjects. These provide many articles, stories, activities, puzzles, and games that can be used in the classroom. Many of these magazines are indexed in the Children’s Magazine Guide which is shelved with the current magazines. Back issues of these pre k – 12 magazines are retained for three years and may be checked out.
Professional Education Books Expand
Professional Education Books:
This collection covers the theoretical academic books in the various curriculum and instruction areas of teacher education, early childhood education, literacy/language arts education, mathematics education, science education, social studies education, educational media and technology, etc. Many professional education books such as educational foundations, educational administration, special education, counseling and school psychology are located in Langsam Library.
Professional Education Journals Expand
Professional Education Journals:
Professional journals shelved alphabetically by title and covering primarily the curriculum areas found in the CECH Library and mentioned above are also available on the 3rd floor. Journals for the other education areas are housed in Langsam Library. CECH Library journals do not circulate.
These books deal with various areas of education and consist of handbooks, dictionaries, encyclopedias, reviews, directories, sources, bibliographies, and books about authors. Education reference books are also found in Langsam Library.
Standardized Tests Expand
A selected collection of standardized tests is available to authorized students enrolled in particular education courses. To review which tests are available, please check the CECH Library List of Tests.
Teacher Handbooks and Bulletin Board Books Expand
Teacher Handbooks (teaching activities) and Bulletin Board Books:
Books in this collection provide the user with all kinds of exciting and motivating teaching/learning activity ideas and lesson plans. A variety of ideas for bulletin board displays can be found in the bulletin board books.
