The Interlibrary Services Department at Langsam Library (in conjunction with other UC libraries) supports scholarly research by obtaining materials from other University of Cincinnati libraries, OhioLINK libraries, or from libraries across the United States or around the world. The department also provides materials to other libraries across the United States and the world.
Patrons may request available materials from other University of Cincinnati libraries to be sent to the library of their choice for pick up. Locate the appropriate record for the book desired in the UC library catalog and choice the “Request” option. Fill out the requested information and choose the library where the book is to be delivered. You will be notified via e-mail when the book is available for pick up. Please note: requests will be cancelled if the book requested is available in the library selected for pick up.
Photocopies of articles from books or journals owned at other University of Cincinnati libraries are not available, except for articles from the Health Sciences Library or the SW Depository.
When desired materials are not available from any University of Cincinnati library location, patrons may request available items from an OhioLINK library. Search for materials in the OhioLINK Library Catalog and request items using the “Request This Item” link in the record. Follow the directions for specifying a pick-up location. Materials from other OhioLINK libraries generally arrive within 3-5 business days. You will be notified via e-mail when the book is available for pick up. You may also view Your Library Record to check on the status of your request. Patrons may also visit other OhioLINK libraries and borrow materials directly.
Materials listed in the UC library catalog with the location of: SW Depository are housed in a remote storage facility.
To Request a Book: From the UC library catalog, choose the “Request” option for materials displaying the location: SW Depository. Please allow 3-5 business days for the material to be delivered to your pick-up location.
To Request an Article: To obtain a copy of an article from a journal that has the location: SW Depository, please use the ILLiad Interlibrary Loan system. If you do not have an ILLiad account you will be required to create one. Once you have successfully logged into ILLiad, choose “Request a Photocopy.” Enter as much information as you can. In the note field, please enter: SW Depository. In most cases, the article will be “delivered to the web” and accessible online within 2-3 days. You will receive e-mail notification indicating how to view the article online.
Users who are not affiliated with the University of Cincinnati may request articles from journals held at the SW Depository by using the Southwest Ohio Regional Depository Request Form. Please supply as complete a citation as possible. You will receive e-mail notification indicating how to view the article online.
Articles from some journals may be too large to scan and therefore these articles will be sent to the pick up location chosen.If a desired title is not available in our UC library catalog, patrons can search the catalogs of other local libraries that are part of SWON Libraries (Southwest Ohio and Neighboring Network). If the material is available at one of the SWON libraries, the patron may go directly to a member library to borrow the material. The University of Cincinnati I.D. card functions as a library card at SWON libraries.
