using library catalogs to find books. Journal articles must first be identified.
Use the databases and indexes to periodical literature like the ones listed in this
section to identify articles in journals about women’s studies topics. Some of these
databases will also provide the full text of the article. Others will provide only a citation.
In that case you will have to find out if the article you have identified is available full text
in another database, or if it is in a print journal that the library owns.

This is a full text collection of women’s history online that contains articles from
some 265 periodicals. Coverage ends in 1945.

Covers a wide range of subject matter including education, sexuality, family, society,
religion, sports, art, theater, language, and history. Also includes a non-annotated listing
of media and book reviews, biography, and criticism. Available online from1984 to the
present in Women’s Resources International (q.v.). For articles published between 1972
and 1983 use the print volumes shelved in the Langsam Library’s reference collection.
This database includes citations and sometimes abstracts. It incorporates the

This resource provides full text access to the back issues of the most important
journals in a number of disciplinary areas. Women’s studies journals are not yet included
as a separate category but the interdisciplinary nature of the field makes JSTOR an
important database to search for background information.
