10/24/2008

Description:

Over 25,000 tests are indexed in the ETS Test database (TestLINK).   The database is searchable using any of 9 different searchable fields, including author , title  and descriptor.  An advanced search mode offers multiple boolean searches.  Each entry provides a description of the test The tests in this collection are available from any of four (4) sources: 1) theTests in Microfiche collection ,   2) individual journal articles or books, 3) test publishers and 4) the ETS store.  A description of all 4 of these availability categories follows: 1)The Tests in Microfiche set is a collection of full text tests.  This collection is identified as Microfiche 891 in Microforms area on the 5th floor of Langsam Library.  You will need the test "call number" to  retrieve tests from the microfiche collection, e.g. TC004933.  Tests in this collection are arranged numerically by the positive integers of the call number.   For example, the preceding test call number would be arranged under the number "4933" in this set of microfiche.  Not all tests in the ETS test collection database are in the "Tests in Microfiche" collection.  The tests in this collection will have a "Test Acronym" field and will show the acronym "TIM" in this field.  2) Tests in books or articles may be available full text.  University Libraries may own the book or may provide either the print or the electronic copy of the journal in which the full text of the test appears.  The "Availability" field will give the complete citation to the book or journal.  3) Tests available from commercial sources, e.g., test publishers, bookstores, etc., may be purchased from those organizations.  4) Over 1,000 tests are available immediately for downloading as a PDF file.  These tests are identifiable by a URL link in the "E-Order" field.  Note: the "Advanced Search" mode is recommended for comprehensive and efficient searches.  When using this mode, "Do Not" use the "All Fields" field search.   To conduct an effective and efficient search, identify specific fields, e.g. title or abstract and search for multiple terms.  For example, an exemplary search, with search terms in brackets would be the following: "SubjectSearch [bipolar] OR TitleSearch [bipolar] OR Abstract [bipolar]."  If a  multiple field search "times out" leaving you with no results, remove one of the variables (fields) and repeat the search.  For example, search for only "SubjectSearch [bipolar] OR TitleSearch [bipolar]."
