A biennial statistical supplement to the Survey of Current Business.  Provides a historical record of statistical series appearing currently in the Survey.  Monthly statistics cover the most recent 4 years.  Yearly averages begin with 1939.

County Business Patterns

Annual series of state and national publications presenting data on number of establishments, total employment and payroll on an establishment basis, with economic activity classification reflecting the principal activity at each individual location.  Data is tabulated based on the SIC classification system.

The site aims to be a convenient, comprehensive first stop for anyone searching among the vast, disparate array of public and private data sources on the Web

Econstats
Includes economic data on the U.S. economy; global stock markets; currency markets; spot, futures and options; and real estate (REITs). Some of the data is offered in spreadsheet format. Their global data contains data from 183 countries. Their stock market covers not on U.S., but most major foreign exchanges, while their foreign exchange market covers many major rates. Some data is available at a price.

Includes data and statistics of use to market researchers.  The data includes county outline maps, population and detailed characteristics, the household income distribution, effective buying income, total retail sales and four buying power index series.  It covers retail sales by twelve individual store groups and ten merchandise line categories for both the current year and the previous economic census.  It also presents TV market data and metropolitan and county market projections, for population, effective buying income and retail sales.

FRASER

The underlying purpose of FRASER is to provide complete data series presented in preliminary, revised and final releases. The documents included are limited to government documents focused on national banking and economic data, ranging from 1896 - 1955 Banking Statistics to 1948 - 2005 Economic Indicators.

FRED (Federal Reserve Economic Data)

FRED provides historical U.S. economic and financial data, including daily U.S. interest rates, monetary and business indicators, exchange rates, and regional economic data for Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee.

One volume makes available major series produced by the Bureau of Labor Statistics.  Each table begins with the earliest reliable data and ends with the most current.  The BLS Handbook  of Methods would be a good companion volume for technical references.

National Bureau of Economic Research. NBER Macro History Database

Contains 3500 monthly, quarterly and annual economic time series.

National Economic Trends

National economic data from the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis. Presents a snapshot of the U.S. Economy.

Plunkett
Plunkett Research covers industry-specific research portals for several industry sectors from energy to e-commerce and retailing to financial services. Includes market research and trends analysis, glossaries, statistics, company profiles and contacts and industry associations and organizations.

REIS (Regional Economic Accounts)

Excellent starting point for all forms of statistics on the U.S. Economy. The site includes all Government statistical releases--same day, NTDB, economic indicators, financial statistics, etc.

Monthly statistics on general business indicators, commodity prices, construction and real estate, domestic trade, labor force, employment and earnings, finance, foreign trade etc...  Monthly statistics are cumulated in the biennial Business  Statistics.

White House Economic Breifing room

Access to current Federal economic indicators. It provides links to information produced by a number of Federal agencies.

WiserTrade

WiserTrade is a database of U.S. Trade statistics. The following are some of the series provided: US State Exports by HS, NAICS, SIC, Port; US Customs District Exports & Imports by HS; US Exports and Imports by Port by SITC; Japanese Exports and Imports by HS. Some of the annual data goes back to 1989.

Statistical and descriptive information on 100 commodities.  Provides statistics on:  supply and distribution, production, consumption, and prices.  Ten years of annual statistics is provided.

National Agricultural Statistics Service
NASS publishes U.S., state, and county level agricultural statistics for many commodities and data series. 

 

CONSTRUCTION

Census of Construction Industries
Construction and housing data cover subjects as varied as masonry and mortgages, gas heating and street construction, and noise pollution and trash collection. Federal, State, and local administrators use the data in determing housing policies, rent subsidies, and transportation and employment-related needs. The data help in designing lumber, water, and fuel policies and contribute to estimates of the gross domestic product (GDP).

The Historical Statistics on Banking (HSOB) provides annual statistical information on the banking industry beginning in 1934. The HSOB contains aggregated data from individual financial reports filed by FDIC-insured commercial banks and savings institutions.

Facts and figures on Government Finance

Facts and Figures on Government Finance is the Tax Foundation's one-volume resource on government taxing and spending. Published regularly since 1941, Facts and Figures brings together data on public finance at all levels of government, with comparisons of taxing and spending levels spanning a half century.

Manufacturing & Distribution USA presents statistics on more than 500 SIC and NIACS classifications in the manufacturing, wholesaling and retail industries. Information is compiled from the most recent government publications and includes projections, maps and graphics. Classification of leading public and private corporations in each industry is also included. Manufacturing & Distribution USA is published biannually.

Enumerates retail establishments in the U.S.  The data includes number of establishments, sales, payroll, and employment.  The data appears in reports by geographic areas, by industry and  by major retail centers in the U.S.

Census of Service Industries
Includes: Lodging, personal service, business services, automotive repair, motion pictures, amusement, health, legal, educational, social, museum, engineering, accounting, research, management, etc. Data is given by geographic areas and by industry.

 

TRANSPORTATION, COMMUNICATIONS, ELECTRIC, GAS AND SANITARY SERVICES

Census of Transportation 
Comprised of a truck inventory and use survey and a commodity transportation survey.  Data includes physical and operational characteristics of the Nation's trucks, other than vehicles owned by Federal, State, and local government agencies.  Also, tons, ton-miles, and value of commodities shipped by manufacturers classified by commodity, means of transport, length of haul, weight, and destination of shipments.

This annual report will give you an overview of the size and composition of the 2 billion person-trips taken domestically by U.S. residents. It includes trip characteristics and traveler demographics for overall U.S. domestic travel and for several key market segments over the past ten years. Also profiled are four income groups and three age groups

WHOLESALE TRADE

Census of Wholesale Trade 
Data includes number of establishments, sales, payroll, employment, operating expenses, and end-of-year inventories for all wholesale establishments with payroll. Separate tabulations for merchant wholesalers, manufacturer's sales branches and offices, and merchandize agents and brokers.  Data is presented by geographic areas and by industries.

Occupational Outlook Handbook

Job forecasts and salary information.  Updated by:  Occupational Outlook Quarterly. 

Standard and Poor's Corporation. The Outlook

The annual forecast is published in December of each year. The forecast covers such areas as: key economic indicators, best industries for the coming year, best stocks for the coming year, IRA opportunities, high yielding stocks and bonds, rapid growth stocks, best performing mutual funds, speculations for aggressive investors.      

Standard and Poor's Industry Surveys. Trends and Projections

This is section 1 of the Industry Surveys published on a weekly basis. Provides a discussion of the current economic conditions and forecasts for major economic indicators with statistics and charts. Each issue provides a regular forecasts section on the major indicators plus many special features on issues of current interest.      

Survey of Professional Forecasters
Quarterly Survey of Macroeconomic forecasts. The survey began in 1968 and was conducted by the American Statistical Association and the National Bureau of Economic Research. The Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia took over the survey in 1990. The Survey offers the actual releases, documentation, mean and median forecasts of all the respondents as well as the individual responses from each economist.

The UCLA Anderson Forecast for the Nation and California. (Langsam Library Latest Reference (Print) -- link to Library Catalog)
Proceedings of the annual UCLA business forecasting conference. Forecasts cover a wide range of economic indicators i.e. national income, consumer expenditures, employment, prices, corporate profits, money, industrial production, energy, etc. Also includes outlook for particular industries.

Value Line Investment Survey.

The Value Line quarterly economic review provides forecasts for the next five years in the areas of: GNP and its components prices and wages, production, housing, retail unit car sales, unemployment, federal budget surplus, money and interest rates, and income.
