The Slide Collection of over 200,000 35mm slides are available for study and teaching to UC faculty and students. The DAAP "How to Find a Slide Guide," available in the slide room and in PDF, provides detailed information on the content and organization of the collection.
Slides are organized into two categories:
Prehistory through the Gothic Period
Renaissance to the Present
Prehistory through the Gothic Period slides are organized in chronological order. Then, alphabetical by country and specific site following a media hierarchy system which is: Architecture/Planning, Sculpture, Painting, Graphic Arts, Decorative or Minor Arts, Manuscripts, Photography, Performance Art.
Renaissance to the Present slides are organized by country in alphabetical order. Within each country, a dictionary arrangement by creator or city, then following the media hierarchy as above.
A borrower replaces a chosen slide with a specific color-chip designating the School of Art, School of Design, or University of Cincinnati Community, ect., then, fills out the form from the slide check out binder (on maroon cabinet in Visual Resources Center). Slides are checked out on an honor basis.
The DAAP Slide Collection provides visual support for teaching and research
by students and faculty of the University of Cincinnati.
The Slide Collection is for campus use only and does not circulate to OhioLINK.
The DAAP Slide Collection does not provide visual teaching support for institutions
outside of UC.
The Slide Collection is available to arts organizations on a limited basis.
Non-UC patrons wishing to borrow slides from the Slide Collection need
to see the Visual Resources Librarian.
Slides are not available for duplication by users outside of the University
of Cincinnati. Any duplication of slides is for educational purposes
only.
We have a room in the west end of the library, near the current periodicals, where photographic reproductions can be made.

Copyright legislation restricts the use of copyrighted materials in non-teaching
function. Reproduction of the collection's slides, in any format, including
digital conversion is, unless for strictly educational purposes, prohibited
without prior written permission from relevant publisher, vendor or photographer.
