The Chemistry-Biology Library is located at 503 Rieveschl Hall. It has approximately 53,500 monographs, 62,700 bound serial volumes, 8,000 continuations, 451 serial subscriptions, and 10,800 chemistry volumes and 18,000 biology volumes in offsite storage. It primarily serves the Chemistry Department and the Department of Biological Sciences.
The Library Catalog is the catalog of materials available on the UC campuses, including the University of Cincinnati Libraries, Medical Center Libraries, Law Library, CAS (College of Applied Science Library), Raymond Walters College Library, Clermont College Library, and Lloyd Library and Museum. The Library Catalog can be used to locate a specific book, conference proceeding, dissertation, or journal. Using the Library Catalog, you may also request that circulating materials from one UC library be sent to the Chemistry-Biology Library. Requested items will be held at the circulation desk for pick-up. Note: it can take several days to transfer materials from one library to another. Materials can sometimes be obtained more quickly by going to the other library in person and checking out the desired material(s).Journal articles and conference papers may be searched using the databases and indexes available through OhioLINK or the internet. Common databases used in Chemistry and Biology are available, or all OhioLINK databases can be viewed by subject area.
Please note that some databases are covered in paper indexes for periods preceding those of the electronic equivalents. For example, the Chemistry-Biology Library has the paper index of Biological Abstracts from 1926-1979, and the paper index of Chemical Abstracts from 1907 to date.
There are several ways to obtain books and journal articles not available at UC. For books, the OhioLINK Central Catalog allows for statewide library catalog searching and self-ordering. Simply click on the "Request this Item" button when looking at the record for your desired title. Select the University of Cincinnati from the pull-down menu, then enter your name and UC ID Number. Requests through OhioLINK typically take 3-4 days. If the book is not available in OhioLink, traditional Interlibrary Loan (ILL) can be used, in which the item is requested to be borrowed from another library, outside the OhioLink consortium. Requests may be submitted online. There is no charge for any of these services; however, the ILL service is limited to UC students, faculty and staff. For journal articles, if the article cannot be found locally through the Library Catalog or Ohiolink's e- Journal Center, the article can be requested through ILL. Requests may be submitted online. There is no charge for any of these services; however, service is limited to UC students, faculty and staff.
The Chemistry- Biology Library has one self-service copier located on the main floor of the library. This copier accepts coins, dollar bills, or UCID cards also known as Bearcat cards. Bearcat cards can be purchased for one dollar at the Langsam Library. Coin and dollar copies cost 10 cents each, and UC Bearcat card copies cost 7 cents each.
New books which have just arrived are displayed on the main floor of the library, on a rack near the circulation desk. They are kept on this rack for a period of one week. New books arrive several times each week, so check often to see the latest arrivals. Or you can view the current new book lists for Chemistry , and Biology online.
