The Music Listening Center is starting to run out of space for its sound recordings. In order to create space for new recordings while retaining older, but still valuable LPs, an new, remote storage location has been created. Designated LP Annex, a small portion of the LP collection is now housed in the Music Listening Center processing room. For reasons of security, direct access to these recordings will be restricted to the following hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM. At other times, patrons will have the option of filling out an LP Annex retrieval request form, which will make the item available at the circulation desk by the earliest time during the Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM time frame. For example, an LP requested at 3:00 PM Saturday will be available, Mon at 8:00 AM.
The LP Annex currently houses ca. 600 discs. These items fall in the call number range LP 1- LP 2080 and are designated with the location CCM LSTN CTR ANNEX in the online catalog. As our space needs continue to grow, so will the Annex collection. In creating the Annex collection, we have tried to identify the highest-use items, and, where possible, replace them with compact disc versions. Faculty who find recordings in the Annex collection that they will need on a regular basis for their teaching or research may request that the item be replaced or reaccessioned with a call number outside the Annex range. Please contact the Asst. Music Librarian to make a transfer request or if you have any additional questions about the Annex.
