Books in the UC Library Catalog

Choosing a subculture - ideas:

  • Do a subject search for Subculture or Counterculture. For some topics Cults may be a useful subject. Browse these subject headings and the ones that follow.
  • Try to do a subject search for your subculture, for example, goth culture. If the phrase you typed is not used as a subject heading, you may be redirected to a subject heading used in the catalog or get a suggestion to do a keyword search.
  • Do a keyword search for subculture* and (young or youth). Fell free to experiment with additional terms and search statements!

Search tips:

  • Try variant spellings (for example, hip-hop or hip hop, straight-edge or straightedge). In keyword searches separate them by OR. In subject searching if one variant did not work, try the other.
  • In keyword searching use synonyms and related terms separated by OR, for example, Amish or Mennonite.
