July 1 , 2007 - As part of the University of Cincinnati’s New Student Orientation, which runs June 22 through August 2, 2007, Langsam Library plays host for a game that informs incoming students about key library resources and services.
To play the library game, students visit stations within the categories of “Get Plugged In,” “Create an Impression,” and “Make the Grade.” They participate in fun and interactive activities such as getting their pictures taken with a Bearcat, watching a video about the Student Technology Resources Center (STRC), quizzing a student library worker, and navigating the library Web site. The activities are designed to be entertaining while educating new students about the various resources and services available in the library. After completing the activities, the students fill out a game card. At the end of each day, a game card drawing is held and the winner receives a prize such as a flash drive.
Over 4,000 incoming students are expected to visit the library during New Student Orientation. The game provides the opportunity to welcome students to UC and to encourage them to return to the library in the fall.
