UC Celebrates Partnership with the Cincinnati Art Museum

December 1, 2006 – The University of Cincinnati and the Cincinnati Art Museum have begun a partnership to encourage greater use of the Art Museum and its collections by UC faculty and students. The partnership was celebrated November 8 when UC faculty members from several colleges and departments including DAAP, CCM, Classics, and University Libraries attended the first “All Professors Night at the Cincinnati Art Museum.” The event provided an opportunity for UC faculty to meet with Cincinnati Art Museum curators and educators to hear about upcoming exhibits through 2009, details about education programs, and information about possible internships for students.

“All Professors Night at the Cincinnati Art Museum” was an outgrowth of recent efforts between the Museum and UC to pursue a higher level of engagement and collaboration between the two institutions. Librarians at both organizations have taken the lead in initiating the partnership. Future projects and events are being planned to bring Cincinnati Art Museum curators and educators together with UC faculty and students in as many ways possible to capitalize on the enormous value of the Museum as a place where learning occurs – a wonderful laboratory within a few miles of the UC campus.

“For decades now, warm and close ties have existed between the Cincinnati Art Museum and UC,” said Kristi Nelson, Senior Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Professor of Art History. “Both institutions have a mutual desire and intention to usher in a new era of greater and more focused coordination and collaboration between the wide range of academic and educational programs and activities that exist in each of our organizations.”
