May 10 - Beginning May 16, the University’s Department of Renovations will begin a summer-long project to replace all of the windows in Blegen Library. The window replacement will begin on the south side of the building and move to the north side. Work on the west and east sides overlap and will alternate at different times throughout the summer.
Because of noise and construction mess, areas in Blegen Library may be temporarily closed or will be disruptive to users. University Libraries will keep users advised of the areas currently being worked on by putting notices on the University Libraries Web site and posting signs at each of the four libraries in Blegen (Archives and Rare Books Library, Classics Library, College-Conservatory of Music Library, and the Curriculum Resources Center).
While all construction projects can be disruptive and a temporary inconvenience at times, the benefits to this project will be dramatic for both library staff and users. The new windows will be double-paned and insulated, which will help in maintaining the temperature and humidity within the building. The improved insulation will also assist in noise reduction coming from outside the building. Additionally, the new windows will be clean, bright, and attractive, improving the overall appearance of this heavily used building.
Thank you for your support as we undertake this important project!
