February 2, 2005 - University Libraries now provides users two ways in which to check out books in Langsam Library – one, they can visit the Circulation Desk and have a staff member check them out to them, or, two, they can use self-checkout and do it themselves.
The 3M self-checkout device allows library users with a valid U.C. I.D. to check out books, CDs, and DVDs themselves. To use self-checkout, users need simply to:
Self-checkout is available for use all hours the library is open. With its convenient location on Langsam’s 4th floor Circulation Desk, library staff members are available to assist users with questions regarding self-checkout.
Self-checkout benefits both library users and staff members alike. For users, it eliminates the need to stand in line for those needing simply to check out a book, CD, or DVD. For staff members, it allows more time to assist library users with matters other than routine checking out of books, such as locating hold and reserve materials or checking out OhioLINK materials.
At this time, books, DVDs, and CDs can be checked out using the new device. Work is underway to make the videocassette collection available for self-checkout. Multimedia equipment such as cameras, laptops, and projectors will continue to be checked out at the STRC/Multimedia Services Desk on the 4th floor of Langsam.
