| How long does a procedure to obtain permission usually take? | This can vary greatly with the type of material involved and the ease of finding the copyright holder. Increasingly, publishers make this process available through web sites. The fastest route may be to expedite obtaining permissions through the use of a collective rights agency, such as the Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). The process is explained in detail at http://www.copyright.iupui.edu/permhome.htm. If you are unable, through a thoughtful, good faith effort, to ascertain the copyright holder for a work, document all research on permissions seeking. See the recommended process at http://www.copyright.iupui.edu/permdeadend.htm |
