Circulation Policies

CECH Library materials may be checked out by currently enrolled UC students, currently employed faculty and staff, and UC Alumni Association members. Also, OhioLINK affiliates throughout Ohio may borrow teacher handbooks, children and young adult books, curriculum guides, and professional education circulating books. A current UC picture I.D. or other valid picture I.D., such as a driver’s license is required to check out materials.

For non-UC borrowers, review the Community Borrowers section below.

Patrons may renew materials online with Your Library Record, by phone at 556-1430, or in person at any of UC's libraries.
*** Because of the nature of curriculum materials and related resources, and how they are used, as well as the heavy demand on these materials, we cannot grant extended loans, such as a quarter loan, on curriculum materials.

Recalled Materials; Claims Returned, or Lost Materials; Overdue Materials

  • Recalled Materials

Materials may be recalled for another borrower any time after they have been checked-out for 3 weeks. Materials may be recalled for Reserve at any time. A $1.00/day fine will be imposed on recalled materials not brought back within the specified number of days. Borrowing priviledges will be blocked if recalled materials are not returned.

  • Claims Returned, or Lost Materials

Please report these immediately to the CECH Library Circulation Desk. Most of the CECH Library's materials may be returned to any of UC's libraries, with the exception of K-12 Electronics, Professional Education Electronics, Children's & Young Adult Electronics, and Reserve materials. These materials must be returned to the CECH Library's Circulation Desk.

  • Overdue Materials

UC materials: Overdue notices are sent to patrons 3 days after the checked-out material was due. Failure to receive an overdue notice does not exonerate one from his/her obligation to return materials on time. Patrons are then given 10 days from the date the overdue notice is sent, to return the materials without being charged a delinquent fee. If the materials are not returned by the date specified in the notice, Delinquent Obligations (DOs) are issued for the average replacement cost of the overdue materials ($100.00/item), a replacement processing fee of $10.00/item, and a delinquent fee of $10.00/item. Borrowers are blocked from checking-out items after accumulated charges are incurred. Outstanding DOs result in the withholding of student’s grades and transcripts.

Reserve materials: Patrons are charged $1.00/hour for the late return of 2-hour and overnight reserve items and $8.00/day for the late return of 1-day and 3-day reserve items.

OhioLINK materials: Patrons are charged $0.50/day. If materials are more than 30 days overdue, patrons will be charged $50.00.

OhioLINK Materials:

UC Faculty may check out books for six weeks and renew items six times (if there are no holds on the items).  Media circulate for seven days.  OhioLINK fines are $.50/day per item for the first 30 days.  After 30 days, a $50 fine per item will be incurred.  A $125 fine is incurred for missing or non-returned items.

Community Borrowers

Community Borrowers may check-out five items for three week loan periods.  They may renew the items up to three times.  On-site database access is available via public terminals.  Community Borrowers include:  donors to UC Libraries ($50 or more), Friends of Women's Studies, Charles McMicken Society donors, SouthWest Ohio and Neighboring Libraries (SWON) card holders, local public library card holders, Herman Schneider Legacy Society donors, Institute for Learning in Retirement members, and UC Alumni Association current and sustaining members.  Please click on the Community Borrowers link above for more information.
